American Roulette

Roulette is an old game with a rich history. Over the decades it has evolved. One of those evolutions is the American version of the game. Looking to increase their advantage over casino players, casinos added one extra zero slot to the wheel—double zero—giving it 38 total slots. The casinos, even though they increased the number of slots, did not increase the payouts. The end result is American Roulette with a wheel containing numbers 1-36, 0 and 00.

The American version of Roulette gives the house a 5.26% advantage over its players. It would be an extremely rare find to see anything but American Roulette in any brick and mortar casino in the United States. Other than the addition of the double zero slot, the game plays pretty much exactly the same as the other version of Roulette—like European Roulette. The payout for a single bet is 35 to 1. A single bet is when you place your betting unit on one single number on the Roulette layout.

Many Roulette gambling systems have been devised for American Roulette. Every day in Las Vegas casinos gamblers swarm in to test out these systems. Many walk away broke, some walk away a little up or down and a rare few walk away with some real winnings. The game is random so a system for the American version of Roulette could work one day and not the next or one minute and not again for a long time. The addition of the double zero in American Roulette did not scare off Roulette players. The game is very exciting and wildly popular—perhaps not as popular as it is in Europe though. There’s little doubt that the image of James Bond has helped the game’s popularity in the United States.
