Learn Roulette Odds

The game of Roulette is mathematical in nature. Knowing the odds and payouts in Roulette are key to winning. Roulette has two different types of games—American and European. Each version has its own set of Roulette odds, because the European has 37 numbers and the American version has 38 numbers. The house advantage in the American version of Roulette is 5.26%, which is basically double the house advantage in the European version.

If you have the opportunity to choose, play the European version of Roulette. There are many online casinos that offer the European version of Roulette. Should you find yourself in an American casino in the real world, you will most likely be limited to the American version of Roulette. A couple percent might not seem like much, but it can be deadly over the long run. Still, Roulette is a very exciting game and you should not pass it up if given the chance to play.

The typical payout on a single number bet in Roulette is 35 to 1. In the American version of Roulette there are 38 numbers, so the true probability of hitting your number is 2.63%. In the European version of Roulette, you have a 2.70% probability of hitting your single bet. Many gambling systems have been devised over time to beat the game of Roulette and most were devised with the European version in mind.

In the American version of Roulette, you have a 47.3% probability of hitting any even money wager. You have a 48.64% of hitting the same even money wager in the European version of Roulette. Should you desire to play the columns or dozens, you have a 31.57% chance of hitting your bet on an American Roulette table. Move over to a European Roulette table and your chance of hitting that same bet increases to 32.43%.

These increases might seem very small to the casual or novice gambler, but added up over time they amount to a sizable difference. If you are going to play Roulette straight, without systems, these differences may not mount up to much. However, a systems player can be devastated by the addition of the double zero in American Roulette. Internet players should shop around for online casinos that offer both.
