Roulette Systems

Many hopeful gamblers have spawned roulette systems to win.

Some of these systems have merit, while others crash and burn instantly. Most Roulette systems are based on mathematical probability. Some are based on random features and some others are based on who knows what. There was a guy once who walked into the casino and tried to play a Roulette system he thought was foolproof. The system was simple enough; cover all numbers one through thirty-six save one.

The gentleman bought in for hundreds of dollars expecting to walk out at some point in the future a rich man. He proceeded to place one dollar one the numbers one through thirty-five. He left the number thirty-six blank. As the dealer went to spin the wheel, there was only three ways he could lose—zero, double zero and thirty-six. The appearance of any of the other thirty-five numbers would make him the winner of one dollar. The idea was pretty simple really. The average Roulette game in the casino was performing around 30 spins per hour—more on a light table. All he had to do was sit there, make $1 per spin and collect his $30 or more per hour.

The first ten or so spins went very well. The ball hopped around the wheel and the layout. Each time, the gentleman’s roulette system came through. However, around 15 spins in, the number zero popped up and he lost $35. Even though he was down $25 (25 wins), he kept at it. A few spins later the number thirty-six came up and he lost another $35. This happened a few more times over the next hour and he walked away a loser—out a few hundred dollars and wondering why.

Had this gentleman thought about his Roulette system a little more, he could have saved hundreds of dollars. First, every spin he had the shot to win one dollar. However, he had to place $35 dollars on the Roulette layout. Would you risk $35 to win $1? Second, he risked all that money and was only being paid 35-1 instead of the true odds. Mathematically there was no way to win over the long term—not even in the short term in this case. There are many Roulette systems out there that work fairly well. Think about your Roulette system before you risk hard earned money.
