Roulette Wheel

The Roulette wheel is a product of the scientific mind. The design itself represents a series of complex engineering and mathematics. The object of the game is to bet on which slot that the marble will land, and somehow the complexity of the Roulette wheel’s structure gives such mystery to what and how the mechanics of the game occurs. Behind the fun and excitement it creates in the casinos, there is more than meets the eye with the Roulette wheel.

In 17th century France, the first form of Roulette was devised by the mathematician, Blaise Pascal. In 1842, Francois and Luis Blanc added the zero to the Roulette wheel. In the early 1800’s, Roulette was brought to the United States and at the same time the double zero was introduced.

Aside from resembling a large bowl, the Roulette wheel has slanted dividers with which have thirty seven or thirty eight individually numbered pockets. In one of these pockets is where the marble rests when the wheel stops.  These pockets are alternately colored in red and black, and green for the zero pocket.

In live casinos such as in Las Vegas, the Roulette wheel’s number arrangement around it predicts randomness. Whereas, in online Roulette, the software called Random Number Generator is where the wheel’s number result depends.  The RNG software makes thousands of random numbers per second and these numbers are extracted when the Roulette wheel spins; and the random number that the RNG produces at the point when the virtual Roulette stops, is the end result.

American vs. European Wheel

Many players don’t know the differences between an American Roulette wheel and a European Roulette wheel. One of these differences is that the American Roulette wheel has two zero pockets. One marked “0”, a single zero, and the other one marked “00”, a double zero. This signifies the difference in the house edge between the two types of Roulette wheels.

Another distinguishing difference among the American Roulette and European Roulette is the size of the table. Comparatively the European Roulette table is larger and the croupier uses a rake to clear and distribute the chips; while in an American Roulette the croupier does it manually.

More casino goers in the United States have experienced the difference between the two types of Roulette and nowadays they demand for the European Roulette wheel since it has one less number pocket, and thus, the odds are higher. The best way for many to experience European Roulette is online.
